In 1920, a group of oppressed members of the 10th Street Baptist Church became dissatisifed with their membership. Pastor B. P. Price along with fourteen members prayerfully decided to withdraw from the church. After their withdrawal, they sought ways and means to establish a new place of worship by purchasing two lots in the Sherrod's Stone Plant addition. The lots were paid off on April 1, 1931. Rev. Price died before his term expired and Rev. Watt Bradley completed the term, thus becoming the second pastor of the newly organized Southside M.B. Church.
It was during the tenure of the third pastor, Rev. R. M. Prowell, the newly organized Southside Church built its first sanctuary. Under his leadership, the Sunday School, Mission, Usher Board, B.V.P.U. grew.
Rev. Zollie Horton became the fourth pastor. Upon his resignation, Rev. O. J. Turner became the fifth pastor. During this period church membership began to grow, the chorus was organized as well as two more circles in the Mission.
The six pastor, Rev. F.W. Thompson, was a carpenter and a lot of the carpentry work was done by him. The seventh pastor was Rev. Sam Ames.
Rev. W.M. Washington became the eighth pastor. Under his leadership, the baptistery and kitchen were added, and the Educational Board was established. These pastors served from 1920 to 1972.
In the Spring of 1972, Rev Isaac Lacy was elected as the ninth pastor. During his tenure of twenty-six years, many great accomplishments were made. Rev. Lacy encouraged programs for Christian Education and youth oriented activities. For transportation purposes, a bus and van were purchased A new sanctuary was built at the location of 1516 15th Street South, Columbus, Ms. On July 14, 1985, dedication and mortgage burning ceremonies were held. The sanctuary was remodeled in 1996 and included a new sound and recording system. The church became incorporated in 1997.
In March 1998, Rev. Clinton McFarland was elected the tenth pastor. Rev. McFarland invoked the mission statement, "Raising the Savior to Reach the Sinner," taken from John 12:32, "And I if I be lifted up from the earth will draw all men unto me." Under his leadership the church moved to a new level and the membership grew tremendously. In 2001 work began on a new sanctuary and family life center. In July 2002, Southside M. B. Church moved to its present location, 100 Nashville Ferry Road East, Columbus, Ms.
In July 2009, Rev. Rayfield Evins Jr. became the eleventh pastor. Through his dynamic teaching and passion for the Word of God, Southside M B. Church continues to spread the message of Jesus Christ; which edifies the Saints and utters in those that do not know Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. On April 28, 2013, the dedication of the Rev. Isaac Lacy Family Life Center was held as a culmination of the 93rd church anniversary celebration.
